Guidance for Commissioners from the National Heart Rhythm Device Taskforce
We are all aware of the inequity of provision of devices for cardiac rhythm management (pacemakers, ICDs, implantable loop recorders and remote monitoring systems) and the need to increase the implant and implementation rates of these devices and systems across the UK.
This guidance document has been produced in order to inform Commissioners about the role of such devices, the economic and healthcare benefits of a correctly structured and funded service and the resource planning needs to ensure that an up to date service will require. It explains the financial benefits to the NHS of utilising modern technology in order to target the patient groups in need of these devices and provides factual information to enable Commissioners to understand how these devices and technologies work.
We would like to encourage everyone to read this (brief) document and take every opportunity to make those responsible for developing these vital clinical services aware of it as a valuable resource.
