Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency
The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) is responsible for ensuring that medical devices are safe. This is particularly important with high risk implantable devices such as pacemakers, ICDs and leads. In order to ensure that any problems with devices are picked up as early as possible, the MHRA operates an online adverse incident reporting system. Anyone can report an adverse incident, 24 hours a day, and all incidents are investigated by the MHRA, in collaboration with the manufacturer. Working in collaboration with Arrhythmia Alliance and HRUK, the MHRA has produced a poster clarifying the details of adverse incidents that they hope will be reported, specifically regarding pacemakers, ICDs and leads. If you are interested in receiving hard copies of the poster for your department, please contact the MHRA, and they will be happy to provide as many as required free of charge.
